Meet Teddy the Toast
by Sofia - in Cooking DIY projects Good things for kids
Suloinen nallepaahtis on valmis!
My kids love toast and they really like almond- and peanut butter so I made them some cute bear toasts for breakfast one morning. If you choose a whole grain toast ( we like one made of oats) it´s also a fairly healthy breakfast. Nut butters are good for kids and adults alike, even if they are filled with fats, they are good fats. Choose one that does not contain sugar or anything else extra and you are good to go. We really like the one from an organic brand called Biona but there are plenty to choose from. Or you could make your own almond butter. All you need is a food processor and overnight soaked almonds ( toasted for flavour if you like). Then you keep on whirring them in the food processor until they turn in to a butter. It may take quite some time so you´ll want to stop and give time for your machine to cool down every now and then. If you like you can add a hint of salt to your butter or some vanilla powder ( or try this Cashew and Vanilla butter). When your almond butter is ready just toast some bread, spread it with the nut butter and decorate with some banana slices and blueberries ( or raisins). So cute! A nice smoothie will top of the breakfast and make it even better for your little ones. Although my breakfast smoothie contains baby spinach, avocado, spirulina, pears and all kids of other green goodness things ( like this), my girls are just not too crazy about it because of the colour. Especially Cotton Candy ( Bubble Gum drinks it happily if her sister is not there to mock it… I wonder if this happens in your house too?). But there are so many other good smoothies to make than the green ones. Add a plethora of berries that are in season now, some banana ( and/or a sneaky avocado) for texture and maybe some vanilla powder too. Think other fruit too like peaches, apricots or plums and a pear has a very good texture for smoothies. Our girls like ginger so I add some of that in there too and just pour a glass or two of water to make it drinkable. For a creamy version try adding some coconut milk. And you know what, adding a spoonful of nut butter in you smoothie makes it creamy too and gives it a nice toasty flavour if you like that!
You could make the smoothies ready the night before and store them in the fridge. Then all you really need to do in the morning is assemble the toast, throw a pretty straw to the smoothie glass and you can start the day with a healthy breakfast your kids will love and get a lot of great energy from and as a bonus you get to feel good about yourself for giving them some love and a whole lot of cuteness in the form of these teddies!
Tomorrow I have another quick breakfast idea to share with you so stay tuned…Have a great day!
Huomenna jaan kanssanne toisen todella nopean ja helpon arkiaamiaisreseptin…
Toivon sinulle hyvää ja reipasta päivää!
