Birthday girl
by Sofia - in Random
Every year I get surprised at how it is possible that it has been so long since the first time I saw my baby girl and became a mother. I became something I had always wanted to be. I have such fond memories from that day! Yesterday was time to celebrate our little girl again on her sixth birthday. Her dream was to ride an elephant and that came true a few days earlier. For her little gift here on holiday she got a pretty bracelet with elephants and turquoise ( her favourite colour) glass pearls. We also got her a cake delivered to our room before breakfast so she got to blow out some candles. At dinner she had a surprise private magic show ( it was a huge hit) and some more cake with singing after dinner. All in all she had a wonderful time and her day ended in a foot massage ( which seems to be their new favourite treat).

Yesterday on her birthday Cotton Candy learned to swim. What she may not remember is that she was a good diver already in baby swim school.
Sweet Cotton Candy,
You give so much joy to our lives.
You are such a smart girl but every time you learn a new skill, like writing, you get so excited about it. I love your enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge. Always asking questions and questioning the answers.
We can find you drawing pictures for everyone you love all the time. Your drawings are so wonderful we have a hard time deciding which ones to keep and which to recycle. We may end up drowning in pretty drawings.
You are the greatest big sister always helping out, lending your hand and looking after your silly little sister.
You are a fun friend to everyone and you have a very strong sense of right and wrong. You don´t leave friends out and that is why you have so many. You always invent games to play and you are very rarely bored. You think of your friends and teachers and what they like and if you see something they love you will want to get it for them.
You craft wonderful things out of anything. You just see the world as one big craft supply store.
You love goofing around with your friends but are a little reserved with people you don´t know. You don´t let anyone hurry you in to doing things you are not sure about. I love that about you!
We love you to the moon and back ( and yes now you want to know everything about the moon and I will have to get you all the facts just to get it all right).
Happy birthday Cotton Candy! You make our lives so sweet and rich and full of knowledge and wisdom…

p.s. I loved how we were reading my old Peanuts book about what good friends are for and on one page it said ” Good friends do your homework for you if you don´t know how” and you said ” No mom, that is absolutely not allowed! If you don´t know the answers you have to learn them!” It says so much about you ♥

The Girl Flu
by Sofia - in Random
We are all familiar with the term Man Flu. When guys get sick they tend to seem like they are about to drop dead. I actually happened to marry what seems like the healthiest man on the planet. I think he has had one flu since we have been together ( about 10 years now). So I don´t have so much personal experience of that. But I on the other half tend to always catch the girls bugs ( they had the flu last week). I´m telling you no matter how much you wash your hands or eat your vitamins it´s not very helpful when a sick kid climbs to your bed at night and puts her face in your face and then sneezes. Now I have completely lost my voice ( which seems to make everyone around me particularly happy except for the people calling me and telling me to stop talking and start texting).
A girl flu is so different from a man flu. When I get sick I want to make myself a nice nest in the bed. I take a hot bath with my favourite flu be gone bath product Cold And Flu Soak from C.O. Bigelow to open up my sinuses. Then I put on freshly laundered pj´s and my favourite cashmere socks. I make a nice pot of hot tea and then I cuddle up in bed with a good book, some movies, Netflix or read the latest glossy magazines so I can get them recycled. I take naps when I feel like I´m about to dose off. When the girls get home from daycare I invite them to join me in bed to play games ( we just got the scrabble junior!) or watch movies on their iPad ( if anything, a flu is a great excuse to not feel guilty about not role playing or crafting with the girls). At night I make myself a vin chaud ( I have probably told you it´s my moms cure for flus and colds and it seems to work quite well… if nothing else the red wine makes you feel a bit better).

Mummy points for trying
by Sofia - in Random
You all know, I hope and presume, that what blogs are and what the lives portrayed on the blogs are may not be and in most cases are not quite the whole reality of the blogger. I just wanted to raise the subject as I absolutely do not want to come by as a know it all mom of perfectly behaved kids. As I for sure do not know it all ( in fact I call my friends and mom for parenting hints and advice fairly regularly) and my kids are absolutely not perfect. Well they are in a way in my eyes, like you think yours are. But not really, as no one is. They misbehave and they get cranky, they fight and they talk back to us. They try to push their limits and we try to give them limits ( and try not to cross ours!). For sure they are sweet and they do well in daycare and have sweet little friendships but they are just normal regular small people. And I am a normal regular mom who tries her best to be a good mom ( and wife and friend and daughter and sister and co-worker…) but also fails at that like we all sometimes do ( and sometimes I just go for a run or close the bathroom door, run myself a bath and tell the rest of my family I need a break from them although I love them).
