Happy Fathers Day!

Oletko jo ehtinyt tehdä kaikki isänpäivä askartelut valmiiksi? Jos kaipaat viime hetken vinkkejä niin tässä olisi muutama hyvä linkki…

Omasta mielestäni ihanimpia muistoja on lukea mitä lapset ovat minusta sanoneet missäkin iässä. Voit printata valmiin pohjan isää varten täytettäväksi ( tosin englanniksi) täältä tai tehdä ihan oman version.

 Have a great weekend a bit in advance! In Finland we are celebrating fathers day so I have included some ideas for cards and presents above.

p.s. Don´t forget the best ( and easiest) one bowl chocolate cake! The photos are horrendously lit but the recipe is fool proof! I might have to remake it and write the recipe in english this time ( with better pictures!).

Booo

Are you all set for Halloween? We are having the girls´ birthday party for family and god parents on Sunday. Even though we only invited just this group we ended up with 30 guests ( plenty of kids between us parents). What a better excuse for a theme than Halloween. So we are doing a little creepy and a little cute. We decided to serve just cake and coffee as parties are all about coffee and cake really aren´t they? But obviously I can not just do a simple cake and leave it at that. So I made these simple meringue ghosts too. They are adorable and so easy to make. Bake these if you are looking for something simple to make Halloween happen in your house. Just make a basic batch of white meringue ( 3 egg whites and 7 tbls of sugar whisked until hard peaks appear). Attach a big round tip to your piping bag and pipe ghost shaped figures ( I´m pretty sure you could just put the batter in a plastic zip log bag and cut one corner off and pipe it through there too if you don´t have the tips already). After they come out of the oven ( 70°c for 3 hours) draw eyes and mouths on them with black gel colour ( I use Wilton). So simple! And the best part is you can make these in advance as meringues stay edible for days ( or weeks really).

Jam jars go cutesy

Olen jo pitkään suunnitellut tekeväni näitä suloisia säilytyspurkkeja joita ihailin viime pääsiäisenä House & Garden lehdessä. Tällaisia on myös Pinterestissä näkynyt paljon, mutta idea on mielestäni edelleen tosi suloinen. Purkkeja varten tarvitset vain akryylimaalia jota saa pienissä purkeissa askartelukaupoista, kannellisia lasipurkkeja, liimaa ja pieniä muovieläimiä. Löysin nämä pikkuiset safarieläimet lelukauppa Karttuunista. Maalasin hillopurkkien kannet ja eläimet, annoin niiden kuivua ja sitten liimasin ne jaloistaan kiinni kansiin. Siinäpä tämä pikku askartelu kaikessa yksinkertaisuudessaan. Meillä purkkeihin laitetaan säilytykseen askarteluun liittyviä pikkujuttuja kuten höyheniä ja teippirullia. Myös pienet askarteluhelmet, paljetit yms. pysyvät purkeissa hyvässä tallessa ja nämä olisivat myös suloisia namipurkkeja. Minulla on vielä leopardi ja elefantti odottelemassa muutaman lisäpurkin tyhjentymistä.

Sillä aikaa kun maalailin kansia ja eläimiä, tytöt maalasivat jotakin pieniä tyhjiä kartonkinlaatikoita vesiväreillä ja liimailivat niihin helmiä ja paljetteja. Vaikka emme tehneetkään samaa askartelua niin kuitenkin puuhastelimme yhdessä. Tytöt saivat myös auttaa pöydän pyyhkimisessä ( meillä on pöydällä arkisin usein ihan vahakangasliina joka on helppo pyyhkiä puhtaaksi myös askartelun jäljiltä) ja pesivät omat siveltimensä ja vesikulhonsa. On kiva huomata kuinka innolla tytöt tarttuvat siivoushommiin kun kyseessä on jokin muu kuin oman huoneen siivoaminen. Emme muuten ihan rehellisyyden nimissä säilytä kaikkia tyttäjen askarteluja. Meillä nimittäin halutaan muuttaa kaikki tyhistä vessapaperirullista lähtien joksikin askarteluksi. Hetken ympäriinsä pyörittyään ne joutuvat sitten roskikseen koska ei meillä riittäisi tila kaikkien juttujen säilyttämiseen. Toki kaikkein hienoimmat tuotokset arkistoidaan.

I have been meaning to try out this one craft for ages. It´s a very easy one and we have all probably seen these all over magazines and Pinterest but it does not make it any less cute or useful. Now that I found the little Safari animals I thought I would give it a go. I have saved some old jam jars and just painted the lids with acrylic paint bought from a crafts store. I also painted the little animals and then glued them on the lids. That is actually how easy this craft was. While I was doing this the girls painted some little boxes with water colours and glued rhinestones on them ( we do not keep all their crafts to be honest but let them do plenty). These jars are cute for some of the small crafts items we like to try and keep organised. But one could definitely use these for candy too or hairpins, Barbies accessories or for what ever comes to mind.
