Happy thoughts

by Sofia   -   in Random

Obviously my happy thought number one is the fact that school started this week and we lived to tell the ( very happy) tale! I´m somehow very excited about this and feel like it´s a great new time in our lives in many ways. Cotton Candy is loving school so far and her teacher is the sweetest. We obviously got her all geared up for the school year with a new backpack and pencils and such. She got to choose her “inside” shoes herself as the same style her little sister wears for nursery is obviously not acceptable ( add a winking smily face here). We also made the desk her designated workspace her little sister is not allowed to clutter with her stickers and such ( which is not such a big change as Bubble Gum is more the “playing with her dolls”-type where Cotton Candy has always been the ” crafting and drawing”-kid in our house so the table was basically always her domain). But now it´s to be kept empty and clean at all times for her to have a calm spot to concentrate on. So cute, especially as her homework so far has taken her about 5 minutes every day. But she is very proud to be a first grader so I´m very very happy for her.

Strawberry & Lime Cheesecake

by Sofia   -   in Cooking

Tein saaressa heinäkuun lopulla anopin syntymäpäiville todella hyvää lime-mansikka juustokakkua. Kakku ei vaadi lainkaan uunia, eikä niin hirmuisesti jauhopeukaloakaan joten tätä uskaltaa vähän vähemmänkin kokenut leipuri kokeilla. Leivoin myös rusina-kaurakeksejä joista tuli tosi hyviä. Juustokakun reseptin löydät täältä ja sopivasti sitkeiden keksien resepti on täällä.

This no bake cheesecake I made on the island for my mother in law´s birthday at the end of July was really good and fairly easy to prepare ( easy enough for all the “non bakers” too!). You can find the recipe for it here. I also made really good ( even if I seem to be bragging here they both were…) oatmeal and raisin cookies. The soft and chewy kind. Find the recipe here.

First grade

by Sofia   -   in Random

Here´s to a new beginning! Cotton Candy´s first day of school. Ever. So exciting! Let´s hope these kids we are raising will change this world for the (even) better.

Do you still remember your first day of school? I remember mine very distinctly. I remember what I wore and I remember what my friend wore. Well, she wasn´t my friend yet then but we became friends later on and still are ( love you M!). Let´s just say that I wore a pleated skirt and mary janes and had a very long hair and she wore cut off jeans shorts, a colourful stripy t-shirt and a chain belt. And she had a very very short hair, shorter than most of the boys. But she was too pretty to be a boy ( although I wasn´t quite sure at first). She was the smartest kid in our class and she still is. And to this day ( although she has long hair now) you could absolutely see her wearing a colourful stripy t-shirt and me in a pleated skirt. I think she has never owned a pleated skirt. But it has never been the point of our friendship. I hope Cotton Candy also keeps her first grade friends for life.
