Ulkona sade ropisee taas peltikattoon. Harvinainen vapaapäivä on ihana viettää sisällä kuunnellen rauhoittavaa tasaista ääntä. Elämä tuntuu tänään olevan edessä, tässä hetkessä, mutta myös tulevassa. Jotenkin kuin olisi hetkeksi pysähtynyt hengähtämään pitkän ajan jälkeen ja kaikki olisi pysähtynyt kunnes maailmaa taas pyörähtää liikkeeseen ja on hypättävä sen kiireiseen matkaan mukaan. Näinkö se aika menikin nopeasti kun katsoo taaksepäin vaikka tuntui, että se ei liikkuisi lainkaan. Ehkä hieman haparoivin askelin uskallan kurottautua tulevaan. Vai hyppäänkö vaan vauhdilla ja lisään kierroksia itsekin?
Olo on helpottunut, vaikka aina olen ollut luottavainen kaiken epävarmuudenkin keskellä. Jokainen meistä kokee elämässä vastoinkäymisiä, mutta se miten niihin suhtaudumme voi vaihdella paljonkin. Emme menetä toivoa ja luottamusta tai sitten heittäydymme epätoivon valtaan. Löydämme kaikesta sen huonoimman lopputuleman tai sitten etsimme tilanteesta kuin tilanteesta ne hyvät puolet. Varmasti jokainen meistä on huonon päivän kohdalle sattuessa joskus purkanut sen läheiseen ihmiseen. Mutta uskon, että tähänkin voi vaikuttaa. Voimme opetella pois huonoista tavoista, kaikkia käyttäytymismalleja ei tarvitse toistaa vain ” koska olen tällainen”. Sama voi toimia myös pidemmän aikavälin haasteissa. Voimme itse päättää mistä tulokulmasta katselemme asioita. Miten lähdemme muuttamaan ja ratkomaan tilanteita joille emme välttämättä mitään voi. Jos en voi asioita muuttaa, auttaako se, että siirrän ongelmani eteenpäin tai etsin syyllistä. Vai katsonko hetken peiliin ja pohdin miten voisin selvitä tästä, mitä voisin tehdä toisin. Mitä hyvää tilanne voisi minulle avata ja tuoda.

We all have our favourites in different things. Our favourite blender, our favourite pots & pans etc. And knives! We have the fabulous Arcos steak knives on the island ( where we eat a majority of the steaks we eat in a year as we have a grill there) that were a wedding gift and work wonders even after 13 years. At home we have the Laguiole steak knives. I love them! But what I love even more is their butter knives. So good and they work on even a little colder butter ( I’m not a fan of margarine and one does not always remember to take the butter out in advance). Besides I like the classic French look of them. So I updated our butter knives by a few more. I also like the idea of serving a dinner roll with a personal butter & knife. At the same time I updated our cheese knives that were actually from my husbands place since before we moved in together about 15 years ago. It was time. Now I can’t wait to invite someone over for some wine & cheese.
I have been on a mission to renew a few other kitchen items this year. That included finally investing in some good quality kitchen knives. I am not a professional chef but you could say I’m an enthusiastic home cook. I have been looking at different options and youtube videos. What I ended up with that I think will supports my cooking style & skill level were the Wüsthoff classic icons in cream. I will admit I was very happy to find a knife series that was somewhat professional yet fitted my white kitchen & my visual preferences. I will probably invest in a good Santoku knife at some point but for now I got a 20 cm chef knife, a 20 cm filé knife ( also called a sandwich knife) and a 9 cm vegetable knife. I also updated our bread knife in the same series. There are many knives on the market for different uses but honestly I believe in investing in a few good basics. But as with everything once you upgrade one thing you find yourself looking for other things that follow in the same category. Now we need better cutting boards and I’m looking to buy a sharpening stone for my fabulous knives. We do have a knife sharpener but not a stone. But I give it time. I’m hoping they stay sharp for a while now.

Sinne meni tammikuu ja vuosi on virallisesti käynnistynyt kunnolla. Tammikuu tuntuu usein jonkin sortin epilogilta ja helmikuussa tulee itselleni ainakin tunne, että viimeistään nyt olisi hyvä kääriä hihat ja ryhtyä hommiin. En puhu nyt kirjaimellisesti mistään töistä vaan vuoden kulusta yleisesti. Matkalla ollaan ja eteenpäin mennään. Tammikuu oli ihana, yhteinen ylimääräinen loma oli sen kohokohta. Mutta siihen mahtui myös paljon hyviä pieniä hetkiä ja rakkautta. Ajattelen usein kuinka onnekas olen kun niin moni ihminen on elämässäni tukena ja iloa tuomassa. Vastoinkäymisiä on aina ja kaikilla, mutta niitä kohti ja niiden yli avoimin mielin ja ihanien ihmisten seurassa.
Here we are now, January 2022 is behind us forever. It was a lovely month for me. But I have a good feeling about the future too. Some lovely plans still got postponed due to Covid for this month but not to worry. We believe it will all turn out for the best. Hope you have been well and feeling cozy and warm in the storms and snow if you are up North. I’ve been on a snowman, cozy warming meals and ” where is my warm scarf” duty and I don’t mind. I have also been taking hot bubble baths, you know I would, and cozying up in bed early in my new pjs and Mrs. Dalloway. I’ve also been watching shows like The Gilded Age ( episode one), some good old Pride and Prejudice ( on Yle Areena) and obviously also the And Just Like That. I agree with most that it’s not what I hoped it would be. But I am still watching it. Are you?
Here are some night and day pictures from my kitchen. Mr Espresso ( yes we ares till calling him that) got home from a trip to the US and I was in the receiving end of some William & Sonoma goodies. Many have asked how I get to browse the site as due to GDPR rules it’s not available to us Europeans anymore.
