Hyvää viikonloppua

by Sofia   -   in Random

Aivan ihanaa viikonloppua! Lähdin tyttökavereiden kanssa viikonlopuksi Lontooseen joten tiedossa on paljon höpöttelyä, ehkä  vähän shoppailua ja toivottavasti Audrey Hepburn National Portrait Galleryssa. Mutta erityisesti vaan yhdessä vietettyä aikaa!

Just wishing you a great weekend! I´m off to London with my girlfriends! We have some great little things planned like grocery shopping at the Borough Market on Saturday morning which I´m really looking forward to. And we are keeping our fingers crossed our concierge finds us tickets to the Audrey Hepburn exhibition Portraits of an icon in the National Portrait Gallery. My friend recommended it to us and it sounds wonderful. Oh and we will surely keep the above rhyme in mind tonight at dinner…

My memory board

by Sofia   -   in Interior design  Party planning  Shopping

I am in love with my new memory/ notice board. It may sound silly but I always wanted one just like this. I had planned on putting it in the kitchen for collecting useful things for the current month. Invitation to parties and occasions, pictures the girls drew and inspiring clippings from magazines etc. Just to empty it at the end of each month and start over. After taking a picture of what the month ended up looking like of course. To turn this whole thing to a some sort of visual diary if you will.  But then I started gathering some inspiration for Bubble Gum´s upcoming birthday party and it ended up looking like this for a while. Surely I need to empty it soon so I can slab it full of dried leaves and pictures of pumpkins and recipes to try for the fall. But here it is never the less and you may even get a little glimpse to Bubble Gum´s 4 th birthday party theme. I usually don´t like revealing the theme before the party but I guess it´s quite obvious. We are having a little Belle & Boo baking party. But it´s still a month away so more about it when the time comes. I got this lovely board from the Gauhar Shop and is it just not perfect? I think we all need one!

Olen ihan rakastunut tähän uuteen muistitauluuni jonka sain Gauhar shopista!

Dress for less

by Sofia   -   in Good things for kids  Shopping

If you don´t have a big budget for children´s clothing or simply find it absurd to pay so much money for clothes for people who grow out of them in mere months then I have a post for you today! I love classical children´s clothing and I sometimes buy a few fabulous items from brands that are ridiculously expensive but just so adorable. But I can´t afford to buy the whole season from say Bonpoint for my children. No matter how much I love a fancier winter coat, one that is mostly to be worn with party dresses, I can´t justify paying over 600€ for a child´s coat they will wear for a few times during the winter.

I have a few go to brands that make clothes that are fairly reasonably prized and great quality. My favourite of them is probably Jacadi. But if you like a very classic style and even these kinds of brands are not in your prize range or like me you sometimes think it´s not worth spending all that money on children´s clothing, then it´s time to learn how to navigate the cheaper brands. I  made some collages for you with example outfits. These are the kind of combinations my girls wear ( and my boys would wear if I had boys). I may have a few cashmere cardigans for them and I like Petit Bateau underwear and t-shirts for the quality that is absolutely supreme ( and lasts more washes that any other brands I have tried) but our girls have for instance their leggings from Next and I would absolutely buy them these pink jeans if they wore pants and the navy blue coat is absolutely gorgeous!

When looking for classic clothes from these big affordable brands you will have to try to see through all the characters ( Dora the Explorer is a cute cartoon but not a character on a classic outfit) and the ” seasonable fashion statements”. And I´m not saying there is something wrong with such but we are going for the timeless looking classic on this post. I think all brands carry these very basics but I chose two brands just to make it a bit easier for me. So all the clothes are from Next or H&M and the shoes are from OKAA Spain.

Pants, shirt, cardigan and shoes. This whole outfit is about 50 € of which the shoes are apr. 20 €. But you can mix and match these items with plenty of things. A classic navy desert boot is great with anything from skirts and dresses to pants and leggings. These are suede leather and made in Spain. I would accessorise this outfit with a navy blue hair bow and I always love it when kids have clean hair that is brushed well. A french braid or a sleek ponytail is always pretty and preppy for longer hair.

I love corduroy pants for both boys and girls. These have a great rusty red colour ( and a price tag to make you smile). I would never pay 88€ for a polo shirt to be worn in nursery and crafted in so this one at 10 € is great. This navy sweater is merino wool and it´s such a classic and goes with anything from sweat pants to dressy pants. The same desert boots as for girls but in camel are also a timeless classic. If you want to funk them up a bit you could buy a pair of shoelaces in a bright colour.

We don´t have school uniforms in Finland but I love them! My mom used to dress me in kilts all the time as a kid. I had navy, grey and tartan ones for every year. My girls have these same skirts in navy and they are the easiest to maintain. You just throw them in the washing machine and they come out looking brand new. No ironing! I love the colour combination of this pink cardigan and the grey and I´m a huge fan of knee length socks and Mary Jane-style shoes too. A basic white polo or a t-shirt works well.
